  2. Use an electric toothbrush – Electric toothbrushes can be more effective for maintaining oral hygiene than manual ones for several reasons. Firstly, many electric toothbrushes come with built-in timers, ensuring that you brush for the recommended two minutes. Additionally, the oscillating or rotating movements of electric toothbrush bristles can provide more thorough and consistent cleaning compared to manual brushing. This helps remove plaque and bacteria more efficiently, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Some electric toothbrush models also offer pressure sensors to prevent excessive force during brushing, preventing potential damage to the gums and enamel. Overall, the technology and features of electric toothbrushes contribute to a more effective and convenient oral hygiene routine. Our hygienist recommends avoiding scrubbing movements while using an electric toothbrush. 
  3. Brush for the full 2 minutes – split your mouth into four quarters, and spend 30 seconds on each section of the mouth. 
  4. Make sure you clean between the teeth every single day – this will depend on the size of the gaps, if they’re really tight together then use floss, for slightly larger spaces, a teepee brush is fine.
  5. Ensure you just spit, don’t rinse. Try to avoid water afterwards as this can wash away the concentrated fluoride left on your teeth, reducing its effectiveness in strengthening enamel and preventing cavities. For children, we recommend lightly rinsing, to avoid swallowing excess toothpaste. 
  6. Ensure you use a fluoride toothpaste, as fluoride is a natural mineral that helps prevent tooth decay and strengthens tooth enamel.
